Watch These Bodybuilders Try a 1,000-Rep, No-Rest, 30-Minute Arm Workout

Fitness YouTubers Jujimufu and Tom Boyden regularly subject themselves to extreme physical challenges, and review other people’s workouts. In their latest video, they switch things up a little, and attempt a new arm workout of Tom’s own devising. Consisting of standing preacher curls, tricep pulls and hammer curls, using light weights, the aim is to get to 1,000 reps within 30 minutes, which works out as an average of 33 reps per minute.

“We have no quantitative analysis for how great this workout is,” admits Tom, who is keen to explore the possible benefits of a high-rep, low-weight workout with no rest time.

“This is like a toning workout from the ’80s,” says Juji after his first 100 reps or so. “Just doing the light reps this fast would actually be a good warmup for a normal workout.”

While it starts out easily enough, it’s not long before the reps start to get harder: Tom only just hits 1,000 reps in the allotted 30 minutes, while Juji cranks out just over 1,150.

“This is not as dumb as I thought it was going to be, honestly,” says Juji. “I’m not sure how I would program it, but I highly recommend you try it for yourself.”

“I went into it thinking it was going to be pretty stupid, but I think it honestly accomplished a purpose,” says Tom, pointing out that the workout has achieved a visible pump without placing any strain on his shoulders or tendons. “I don’t think it’s a superhero pump, but for 30 minutes… I would say it’s a B.”
