Influencer slams ‘harmful’ calories on menus as she opens up about food struggle

Body positive influencer Nelly London has slammed the "harmful" calories on menus legislation as she has opened up about her struggles with food.

The brunette babe often shares uplifting snaps to her Instagram where she is not shy about ditching her clothes to flaunt her curves in lingerie.

However, in a recent post to her 489,000 followers, Nelly has shared how the calorie information on menus has negatively affected her.

The calorie labelling rules have been brought in by the government to attempt to "improve" the nation's health.

At first, the Brighton-based beauty admitted that she hoped to ignore the new addition to eating out – but it quickly brought back a negative relationship to food that she thought she had “worked past.”

Although the legislation that was brought in on April 6 made it difficult for the influencer, Nelly has now defied her struggles and tucked an ice cream and burger – without having to worry about the calories.

In the snap, Nelly held a 99 flake ice cream whilst she gave a huge grin.

The influencer sported a natural makeup look whilst she had some pink and silver body glitter fashioned into a moon shape on the side of face.

Nelly also tucked into a juicy looking burger.

The body positive star wrote a lengthy caption to share how she has overcame her recent struggle.

“And I didn’t have to read the calories on one single menu.

“I was hoping to sort of ignore the whole calories on menus thing, and wanted to pretend I didn’t notice them. Turns out that wasn’t possible, and it’s been one of the hardest adjustments/set backs I’ve had.

“I spent years unlearning a lifetime of disordered eating, which included a lot of calorie counting, actually, it wasn’t even calorie counting, it was more calorie obsessing. I wouldn’t just observe a certain foods caloric value, I would count, count again, break down *exactly* what was in every single food before, during and after I ate it.

“Learning to not think like that saved my life. So when my favourite restaurants started giving me no option but to see how many calories are in every single item, I just wanted to run.”

Eating out became difficult for Nelly as she found herself ‘fixated’ on how many calories was in her food.

“I found myself changing my order, avoiding my favourite foods, zoning out of conversations over dinner and instead fixating once again on the calories in my meal, and what the ‘consequences’ of those calories are.

“Something I really thought I had worked past. I know some people have an argument for this new legislation being a good thing, and I’m usually a ‘sit in the middle of a debate’ kinda gal, but not on this.

She slammed: “I think it is one of the worst, most harmful and just dumbest decisions recently made to food legislation.

“Food freedom is a joy I will never take for granted, and today was all about that. I had the best day and was reminded that food can be a pleasure, a celebration, and something to just experience.

“Love to anyone who gets it.”

Inspired by Nelly’s post, many people fled to the comments to thank the influencer for being so open about her struggles.

One person commented: “You’re the best.”

Another user added: “Thank you for talking about this.”

Whilst a third person voiced: “Proud of you! I can’t imagine how difficult it must be seeing cals everywhere now…”

Someone else praised: “I love this and genuinely needed it. Thank you! I feel heard and understood.”

And, a fifth person expressed: “Thank you for sharing, I 100% agree. It’s really difficult.”
