Plenty of celebrity children have no interest in watching their parent’s movies or TV shows. Come to think of it, a lot of children have no interest in their parents, period. Brutal, we know. But luckily that’s not the case when it comes to Matt Damon’s daughter Isabella, 16. She loves watching his movies.
So long as they’re bad.
That’s right. She’s not interested in watching his performances in Good Will Hunting or The Martian, both of which earned him Best Actor nominations at the Oscars. She’s not turning to the Academy for recommendations. She’s turning to Rotten Tomatoes.
Damon appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Thursday and spoke about how his teen — who he shares with Luciana Barroso along with their other daughters Gia, 15 and Stella, 12 — consistently trolls him by only watching his bad movies.
“My 16-year-old likes to give me a hard time,” the actor said. “She is very clear about not wanting to see anything that I’m in if she thinks it might be good. If I get bad reviews in something, that’s the one she wants to see.”
What’s one such movie? Damon ‘fessed up to The Great Wall not living up to his daughter’s standards. One time he overheard Isabella talking to her friend about “The Wall,” and he made the mistake of jumping in to correct her.
“I was like, ‘Isabella that movie is called The Great Wall,’” he said. “And she said, ‘Dad, there’s nothing great about that movie.’”
“That is the most ice-cold 16-year-old thing I’ve ever heard,” host Seth Meyers told Damon with a laugh.
Step aside, Jimmy Kimmel! When it comes to trolling Matt Damon, you have some serious competition. Kimmel and Damon have been “feuding” since 2005 when the TV host randomly started closing out each episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! by saying, “Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time.”
The pair has kept up the hilarious rivalry ever since then. A year later, Kimmel invited Damon to the show only to — you guessed it! — run out of time. In 2008, Damon made a music video with Kimmel’s then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman in which she sings a satirical song, “I’m F*cking Matt Damon.” Tough break, Kimmel. Your girl was “sleeping with” your nemesis.
And on and on it goes, much to the delight of fans. In 2015, the pair tried couples therapy. In 2016, Ben Affleck wore a giant overcoat and smuggled Damon onto Kimmel’s show. And the following year, Kimmel hosted the Oscars and roasted Damon (which he did this year too!). Many have tried (and failed) to play “peacemaker” over the years, and for our sake, we hope they never succeed.
For our sake, we hope Kimmel and Isabella team up to keep giving Damon a hard time — so we can have a good laugh.
