COVID-19 is an infectious disease that has been confirmed in almost 40 million people across the world, while more than one million have died from the virus. If you develop any of the key coronavirus symptoms, you should get tested for the infection straight away.
The UK has seen a steady rise in the number of coronavirus cases over the past few weeks.
A number of councils across the country have entered into ‘tier three’ restrictions, in a bid to cut the infection rate.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has now ordered all pubs and restaurants to shut at 10pm, while nobody should meet with more than five other people for the foreseeable future.
Experts have now revealed a new symptom of coronavirus; a discolouration and swelling on the feet.
Some COVID patients may find that their toes turn a red or purple colour.
The toes may also become unusually swollen or inflamed, warned Dr Esther Freeman, from the International COVID-19 Dermatology Registry.
Most of the time, the so-called ‘COVID toes’ gets better by itself, and is relatively mild.
But there have been reports of patients having swollen toes for up to two months.

“It seems there is a certain sub-group of patients that, when they get COVID, they develop inflammation in their toes, which turns them red and swollen, and then they eventually turn purple.
“In most cases, it is self-resolved and it goes away. It is relatively mild.
“It lasts on average about 15 days. But we have seen patients lasting a month or two months.
“I think what we’re reporting is probably just the tip of the iceberg – it’s probably happening a lot more than we’re reporting but I think by reporting it more people will recognise it.”
COVID toes may also develop on the fingers, or both, added the American Academy of Dermatology.
Along with the swelling, the symptom could lead to painful bumps, and the toes may be very itchy.
If you have COVID toes, there are some treatments available to reduce the itchiness, it added.
You may also develop a number of other coronavirus symptoms if you have COVID toes.
A high fever, a new cough, and a change to your sense of smell or taste are the most common early coronavirus symptoms.
You should only get tested for the infection if you develop any of these symptoms.
Some patients have also reported a sore throat, headaches, and even hiccups, on top of the more common signs.
Almost 45,000 people have died from coronavirus in the UK.
