Protection from cardiovascular events by fish oil?
Heart attacks and strokes each year cost many lives. A statistical analysis has now shown that the use of high-purity fish oil heart attacks, strokes and other adverse cardiovascular can avoid events.
In the current investigation of the University of California, Irvine, it was found that treatment with high-purity fish oil each year many heart attacks, strokes and other unpleasant cardiovascular can avoid impact. The results of the study will be on the upcoming virtual conference, the ACC.20/World Congress of Cardiology 28. up to 30. March will be presented.
A lot of people could benefit from high-purity fish oil
In the analysis of various studies (REDUCE-IT, NHANES), it was found that annually, more than 70,000 heart attacks, strokes and other adverse cardiovascular events in the United States could be prevented through the use of a therapy with high-purity fish oil.
Treatment of reduced heart attacks and strokes by 25 per cent
The results of the evaluated REDUCE-IT study will show, for example, that people with known cardiovascular disease or Diabetes, elevated triglyceride values, and an increased risk for ischemic events to benefit significantly from therapy with high-purity fish oil (Icosapent Ethyl). Such treatment reduced heart attacks and strokes by 25 percent.
Contradictory results in other studies
Other studies have found no positive results, which may be due to mixtures with other Omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA or an inadequate dosage, report the researchers.
Advantageous effect of Icosapent Ethyl
“Through the use of inclusion criteria and event vascular disorders of the REDUCE-IT study and their application to data from NHANES rates for heart-about US adults, we were able to estimate the beneficial effect, the Icosapent Ethyl may have on the prevention of first and General cardiovascular events in eligible US adults with cardiovascular disease or Diabetes and multiple risk factors,” says study author Professor Dr. Nathan D. Wong from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine in a press release.
What is Ethyl Icosapent -?
Icosapent Ethyl, a purified stable eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which was recently approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in combination with a maximally tolerated Statin therapy, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in certain adults with increased triglyceride-Mirrors. The only drug of its kind, which shows such an effect, is currently being marketed under the name, Vascepa.
Therapy is supported by many companies
There are already several large companies, such as the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the National Lipid Association and the European Society of Cardiology/European Atherosclerosis Society, which support the EPO-therapy. The therapy has participated in several guidelines, scientific opinions and advice included. (as)
