Hair loss is a problem that many men and women face today. According to recent studies, hair loss is found in as many as 70 percent of men, and in women, who are considered less likely to have this problem. Statistics show otherwise with about 30 percent of women face or will face hair loss later on in life. However, in women, hair loss usually does not end with total baldness, as is the case with men. According to studies, using coconut oil could help to increase hair growth.
Coconut oil is a fatty oil that’s made from raw or dried coconuts. It looks like solid, white butter at room temperature and melts when heated.
This natural oil is traditionally used as a food, for cooking, and as a hair and beauty treatment.
There’s plenty of medical research on the health benefits of coconut oil for your body, skin, and hair and could be the answer to increasing your hair growth.
“Your hair is said to be your crowning glory, and it’s normal to want to improve your hair if it’s not to your satisfaction,” said Healthline.
The site continued: “Coconut oil contains fatty acids that penetrate inside the hair shaft and reduce protein loss from hair.
“Massage coconut oil into your scalp and all of your hair. If your hair is dry, you can also use it as a leave-in treatment.
“There needs to be more research on coconut oil as a promoter of hair growth, but it’s been shown to improve the health and lustre of hair and has been used for centuries.”

According to research published in the International Journal of Ethics in Engineering & Management Education, combining natural products produces the most promising results.
Malaysian researchers have demonstrated that a mixture of coconut oil (Cocos nucifera) and Nigella sativa is very effective in promoting hair growth.
The researchers in the study concluded: “The mixture among coconut oil and Nigella sativa is the most effective to promote hair growth than others, thus it has potential as an alternative way to be used for hair treatment in the future.
“Further study is suggested to identify the effectiveness of coconut oil and olive oil with Nigella sativa extracts in promoting hair growth.”
While there is scientific proof that coconut oil can reduce protein loss in hair, there’s no scientific evidence to show that coconut oil has any effect on preventing male pattern baldness caused by DHT.
Coconut oil is an oil that’s extracted from the copra or meat of coconuts.
It contains a high percentage of MCTs, which animal and test-tube studies have shown can block the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT which is the hormone linked to male pattern baldness.
You can add coconut oil to your diet and use it in your cooking.
Eating coconut oil might give you healthier, faster growing hair.
You might notice a difference especially if you aren’t getting enough natural fats and other nutrients in your diet.
Using coconut oil as a hair and scalp mask may also help kill hair lice and lice eggs.
