Hair loss treatment – four easy ways to avoid alopecia and stimulate hair growth at home

Hair loss can be a natural part of the ageing process, and most of the time, it’s nothing to worry about. We can even lose up to 100 hairs on our bodies every day, without even noticing. But you could prolong the life of your locks by simply making a few small changes to your daily hair management routine.

One of the easiest ways to avoid losing your hair is to limit your use of curling irons, or hot irons.

Hair that’s already in the process of falling out is particularly fragile.

These types of home styling equipment can leave a lasting impact on your hair, which may increase the speed at which you lose your hair.

You should also consider giving up on hot-oil treatments, added the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).

Heating up the hair can increase the damage to fragile hair, it said.

If you often brush or comb your hair, you should cut back on the amount of time you spend styling your hair.

Tugging on your hair while combing or brushing can lead to hair loss.

You should only brush your hair enough to style it, and you should do it gently, it said.

“When faced with hair loss, many people aren’t sure where to turn for help. They often try to hide the problem by changing their part or hairstyle, or buy products that come with claims that they can restore hair,” said the AAD.

“The results from these efforts are often modest at best and rarely get to the root of the problem.

“If you smoke, stop. Smoking causes inflammation throughout the body, which can worsen hair loss.

“If you have a habit of twisting your hair around your finger or pulling on it, try to stop. These habits can further weaken already fragile hair, causing more hair loss.”

Meanwhile, you could also help to slow down your rate of hair loss by applying onion juice to your scalp, it’s been claimed.

The juice contains sulphur, which may play a role in hair regrowth.

Onions also contain antioxidants known as flavonoids, which protect the body from damaging free radicals.

Free radicals are believed to contribute to the ageing process, and could lead to hair thinning, or even loss of hair entirely.

Losing your hair isn’t necessarily something to be worried about.

But, on rare occasions, it could be a tell-tale sign of another medical condition.

You should speak to a doctor if you suddenly start losing your hair, or if you develop bald patches.

There are other treatments for hair loss – including transplants – but they aren’t available on the NHS, and you’ll need to pay for them.
