High blood pressure – the £1 breakfast fruit juice to protect against deadly hypertension

High blood pressure is a common condition that affects more than a quarter of all adults in the UK. But, you could lower your risk of developing hypertension by simply adding cherry juice to your diet, it’s been claimed.

High blood pressure – which is also known as hypertension – puts extra stress on blood vessels and vital organs.

The condition could lead to some deadly complications, including strokes and heart attacks.

It could be caused by eating an unhealthy diet, or by not doing enough exercise.

One of the most effective natural remedies for high blood pressure is drinking cherry juice, a nutritionist has revealed.

Cherry juice is rich in antioxidants that are particularly beneficial for hypertension patients, according to Dr Sarah Brewer.

These antioxidants, which are known as polyphenols, help to dilate blood vessels, and improve aerial elasticity, she said.

Just 60ml of sour cherry juice could lower systolic blood pressure by as much as 7mmHg.

The effect is also very fast. Blood pressure may start to reduce within an hour of drinking cherry juice, and could last for up to eight hours.

“Cherry juice is one of the most effective natural remedies for high blood pressure,” the nutritionist wrote on her website, MyLowerBloodPressure.com.

“Juice from tart Montmorency cherries are as effective at lowering blood pressure as some hypertensive drugs.

“Eat fresh cherries as a snack – the darker, sourer ones offer the greatest benefits – and add them to yoghurt, muesli and fruit salads. They’re also great when added to fruit juices and smoothies.

“For an on-going medicinal effect, drink Montmorency cherry juice, too. Just 60ml diluted with water, or added to other juices and smoothies is a great way to take your medicine. Cherry juice extracts are available in capsule form, too.”

Meanwhile, you could also lower your blood pressure by regularly using olive oil while cooking.

Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants; both of which may help to lower your blood pressure.

Just two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil everyday could cut your risk of hypertension.

High blood pressure patients could lower their blood pressure by as much as 8/7mmHg by regularly eating 30mg of the oil, scientists have claimed.

High blood pressure is often known as ‘the silent killer’, because symptoms only tend to reveal themselves if you have extremely high blood pressure.
