Why you’ll never have to parallel park again – watch as new driving tech means you’ll fit into the tiniest parking space | The Sun

A CAR expert claims you’ll never have to parallel park again thanks to new driving technology that will allow you to fit into the tightest of spaces.

Hyundai Mobis, the carmaker’s parts division, has released a new video of it’s new e-Corner system.

The video shows the Hyundai Mobis Ioniq 5 prototype demonstrating the new tech – with wheels that can rotate up to 90 degrees.

The system developed by the South Korean company consists of an e-corner module at each wheel.

This combines steering, braking, suspension and drive systems into each wheel and was actually first previewed in 2018.

Although the system isn’t yet ready for mass production, Hyundai does intend to include it in its upcoming cars.

Some of the key functions of the system are shown in the video.

The first is the ‘Crab Mode’, which works similarly to the crab walking function of the GMC Hummer EV, although that system can only move the electric pickup on a diagonal line.

However, Hyundai’s Crab Walk function can drive the car sideways.

This avoids the need to parallel park entirely and means you could pull up to a space, engage the parking system, and drive in sideways.

Head of Future Technology Convergence Institute at Hyundai Mobis, Cheon Jae-Seung, recently said: “We are idealizing the e-Corner System to meet the demands for future mobility.

“We will secure different types of customized mobility solutions that can be applied in autonomous driving and PBVs to solidify our vision of reaching new heights as a mobility platform provider.”
