Following a plant-based diet impacts one’s health greatly. How does a plant-based diet help with life longevity?

Plant-based diets are a way of eating which celebrates plant foods and cuts out unhealthy items such as added sugars and refined grains.

Plant-based diets have been linked to a number of health benefits, including reducing a person’s risk of heart disease, certain cancers, obesity, diabetes and even cognitive decline.

According to the study, which was published in the Journal of Nutrition, plant-based diets and in particular veganism, may just be the secret to a longer life.

The study, which looked how various diets impact biomarkers, found that vegans have the most antioxidants in their bodies.

The impact was largely down to one’s higher intake of fruits and vegetables.

In fact, the study found that vegans also have substantially lower rates of deaths among them as opposed to their meat-eating counterparts.

For several decades, research has consistently proved over and over that a vegetarian diet will reduce one’s risk of major diseases and help to increase life.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Center said: “Eating plant-based does not mean you can’t eat meat.

“It means your meals are mostly plants including vegetables, wholegrains and fruits.

“Beans, seeds and nuts are also included. Fill two-thirds of your plate with these plant-based foods.

“The remaining one-third should be lean protein like chicken or fish, or a plant protein like tofu or beans.

“Plant-based diets have essential nutrients that you cannot get from other foods.

“The vitamins and mineral, phytochemicals and antioxidants in plants help keep your cells healthy and your body in balance so that your immune system can function at its best.”

Dr Andrea Murray added: “Plants give your body what it needs to help fight off infection.

“A plant-based diet strengthens your immune system to protect you against germs and microorganisms.”
